Jack Fowler

Overview

Jack Fowler is the Senior Director of Strategic Partnerships at AmPhil, where he fosters institutional relationships with faith-based and conservative nonprofits, many of which he has worked alongside in his four decades of movement activity. A senior fellow at AmPhil’s related nonprofit, the Center for Civil Society, Jack hosts its webinar series, authors its popular weekly newsletter, Civil Thoughts, and serves as editor of its online journal, Philanthropy Daily. He represents AmPhil at various conferences and also assists with its donor advisory services program.

Jack’s Story:

The AmPhil relationship is longstanding, stretching back over 20 years with its founders. As the publisher of National Review and a trustee of National Review Institute—organizations which were among the original clients of “American Philanthropic”—Jack, given the benefit and lessons learned from this intimate experience, has been evangelical to mission-aligned nonprofits as to how AmPhil can truly help their vital missions flourish. His long tenture (31 years) at National Review—his roles included Congressional Reporter, Publisher, and Vice President, and he was blessed to call William F. Buckley Jr. his boss—afforded Jack friendship-developing opportunities to engage regularly with movement leaders and organizations, as well as with many faith-based entities.

Jack enjoys helping clients and friends with media needs and article strategizing, and he still occasionally writes for National Review and other outlets. His board service includes the Daily Signal Foundation, Human Life Foundation, Gatestone Institute, Sophia Press Institute, the American Mental Health Foundation, GenJustice, The Franklin Center, and the Jonathan Law High School Sports Association (for which he cooked many a Friday-night hamburger).

One of ten children, Jack is a Bronx native and former Yankee Stadium vendor who graduated from Regis High School and College of the Holy Cross, where he met his beloved wife Sharon. They reside in Milford, CT, and are fortunate that their five adult children and spouses are proximate and loving. A practicting Catholic and a Knight of Columbus, Jack’s public service includes terms on the Milford Board of Alderman and member of its September 11 Memorial Commission and its Housing Authority. For seven years he ran a Catholic-school bingo program and suffered no breakdowns. Jack aspires to write a book with his son Andrew about movie priests.
